Guessing Game.

So here's how the game works. I'm going to post some pictures. You have to guess what they are. Ready??

Um, excuse me?

I had to run to Target the other day to grab a few things at the store. It was perfect timing since I had some time between work and grad school and it was on the way. Loverly. So I'm grabbing a couple groceries. I am on one end of the store and can see all the way to the back. I look up. This is what I saw:

Do you know what day it was? Friday. Friday SEPTEMBER 26!!!! Do you know what he's hanging? Do you see the snowman? Do you see the reindeer? Do you see the green and red GARLAND!!!!!!?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3 whole months before Christmas!

Ok, let's just talk about all the holidays between now and then. Columbus day. What happened to celebrating the man who "discovered" the grand ole US of A?! And Halloween? All the dressing up and candy-grubbing. We can't miss that. Election day. I don't know, but it seems like that's a kind of important day for a few people here and there. And then Thanksgiving. Talk about celebration of survival. And shouldn't we all really really celebrate survival this year? Good heavens! And the best holiday between now and Christmas? Pear Harbor Day!!! And that goober in the Target is just skipping them all. Rude.

Things I love and eat!... or eat and love?

I've started photographing some of my favorite things I like to eat.

There. I said it. So far, this has been the result. I meant to take a picture of my beautiful french toast breakfast, but I was halfway through it before I thought "wow, this was pretty, I should have taken a picture!" Oh well. Next time.

So one thing that I quickly fell in love with when I moved to the thriving metropolis of the WMA (Washington metro area...weird.) is all the amazing amazing wonderful food. There's a great little kabob place not far from my school. That's where I got this little delight - lamb souvlaki sandwich. Oh so good! In fact, I'm totally drooling right now craving the delight that is Moby Dick's. With it you can see the Tzatziki sauce and the hummus. De-light. Actually, not light at all, but soo soo good. Some days I"ll just get the naan and hummus for lunch. That's also delightful. They also make basmati rice and make some of it with saffron, which is incredibly tasty. So if you get a chance, try some kabob.

Another favorite (and even more occasional meal than Moby Dick's) is Five Guys. YUM! Fresh fresh burgers on the grill, made just the way you like it, one patty or two and all the fixins you could imagine. Raw onions or fried onions. Raw mushrooms or sautéed mushrooms. Lettuce, tomato, relish, cheese, mayo, mustard, you can even have horseradish. Gross. But if that floats your boat, then you'd be happy at Five Guys. They get all their potatoes from Idaho and they announce where their potatoes were grown each day. Mine were from Sugar City, Idaho. Then they fry 'em up in peanut oil. Oy what a difference that makes!! My favorite are the Cajun fries - they have a little sprinkling of old bay-ish spices and are oh-so-yum. Look how yummy it is? I made up a little fry sauce to go with my regular fries. Oh and you also get more fries than one person could possibly eat. In fact, maybe even more than 2 could eat. When I go, I often bum fries off everyone else or we go splitsies on the fries. A week ago I went with 2 guys and we got one large order and that was plenty for 3 of us. That's a lot of fries!

Another new discovery here is sushi. A friend of mine took me for sushi at the end of last school year and I've been addicted ever since. We even had the sashimi which is the raw meat on top of a little mound of rice. It was SOOO good!!!! I couldn't even believe it. So that got me over my fear and grossness of fish. It was sweet and didn't just mush in my mouth. YUM. So a fabulous thing is that in almost all the grocery stores they have a sushi person who will make you sushi to order, and then they also have some that is all ready for takeout which they make fresh each day. One of my favorite things to do is get the California rolls (I think). They have avocado, I think some cucumber and krab. They don't taste fishy or ocean-y or seaweed-y at all, which is good. Look how pretty they are!!! So if you come to visit, we have to go be adventurous and get some sushi. I promise it's good!!!
